The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, came to Binghamton, NY in 1936 to teach
religious instruction.
St. John School began September 7, 1949 for grades K-4, and added grades 5-8 by 1951, with
every class being taught by an IHM Sister. The first graduation was June 20, 1952.
St. John School is now staffed with many wonderful and dedicated lay teachers, one full time Sister,
and other Sisters who teach assist part time. We are very grateful to these wonderful Sisters for
their many years of love and service to the community of St. John the Evangelist.
